"The Movement" ATINA CHILE Atina Chile is an invitation to care about Chile, to awaken and cultivate love for our country, to take on as our own the country's challenges in the realms of education and wealth generation, to construct a "we," and to create a national identity that we can be proud of. Atina Chile lifts up the hearts of the Chilean people, in order that we do not lose the north, in order to establish a space for a national project, without bigotry, with pluralism and diversity, with civic respect, beyond legitimate cultural differences, beyond ideologies, beyond poverty and wealth. We do not fear this love for Chile because it allows us to imagine: ??? A Chile where there is a just balance between public and private interests. ??? A Chile where it is understood that that the creation of wealth and prestige is not contradictory to a culture of enterprise, solidarity, and patriotism. ??? A Chile where a honorable society is nourished, and where dignity means the obligation to feel shame for the existence of poverty. ??? A Chile where we will have said "no" to our obsession with celebrity gossip and "yes" to excellence, "yes" to responsibility, "yes" to the opportunities that history offers us today. We invite you to build a country in which a passion for a culture of entrepreneurial action is generated by our common solidarity and respect for democracy. We invite you to "Atinate"! Atinate is to do that which this nation merits and send out a voice that is heard in the concert of nations Atinate is to do what the nation merits so that our sons and daughters, our grandsons and granddaughters may say: "how great is this country that we inherit" Atinate is to do what the nation merits to stop saying "I" and start saying "WE" What does it mean to be a part of Atina Chile? 1) It means to commit ourselves actively to building Chile. Human beings - we ourselves - build the world. Chile is the result of our daily actions: as much of our neglect as of our commitment. But it is always constructed from that which we do or fail to do. Everything depends on us, on our commitment, and on our capacity to mobilize others. Thus, taking active responsibility, we transform ourselves. Atina Chile plays a leading role in our society, constructing the "we," not only "each individual." We understand that our future and that of our families is not found separately from the future of our community. Moreover, we appreciate and understand that our community, region, city, and country, are spaces for us to actively care for. The members of this movement are not only detached observers, passive and aggrieved about the evils and the opportunities of Chile. We face these challenges. We do not let the opportunities of this moment pass. We innovate and mobilize new practices and social yearnings which were until now unsatisfied or marginalized. We do all that we can to construct a great future for Chile as a nation for all. 2) It means to build ourselves into leaders that make a difference. By participating in Atina Chile we change the country and we transform ourselves. We bring to life the leadership potential and creativity in all of us. We transform ourselves into agents that create history, rather than passive experts. To participate in Atina Chile means to live the fullest life possible and to take advantage of life's most challenging and beautiful possibilities. It means to measure our own worth by leaving behind us a different world: more united and inclusive, more democratic and varied, more innovative, poetic, and entrepreneurial. To make a difference is not to settle for "that which is," for the available standards, for calm resignation. A member of Atina Chile is committed to excellent work for the community, to excellence in personal relations, to innovate and to cultivate excellence in others. 3) Citizens of the world and passionate Chileans. It means to keep ourselves alert to what is to come, not only for ourselves, but also for Chile. Not only for our individual lives but for the challenges, opportunities, and threats to our country. One of the principal roles of the Atina Chile movement in our society is to supply meaning and the capacity to live in a global society that is dizzy with technological revolutions that impact the lives of individuals. Our mission is to detect opportunities and threats, to orient and alert, to develop capacities for us Chileans, with the aim of navigating the waves of change. Atina Chile "lives resolutely in the 21st century," in the political, social, cultural, labor, educational, and civic tensions that this "era" sets before us every day. And we are convinced that, in order for us to do well as a country, we have no time to lose. We do not want to turn ourselves into clear strategists of our individual lives or those of our families. It is too easy, this game of achieving maximum benefit from the ease that this open and mobile world provides. But this kind of life does not make sense. We wish to take charge of Chile. Atina Chile is a community that explores and directs society in these revolutions. It is also an entrepreneurial nucleus that monitors opportunities in order to create new initiatives and personal and social projects. 4) It means to be a political actor. The state, the Parliament, the municipalities, the representation centers of citizen groups, and the political parties are fundamental places to participate in the invention of Chile. These are the places in which citizens and their representatives discuss the country that they want and where we create our laws. To participate in Atina Chile means that we de not abstain from politics. On the contrary, it means to take active responsibility for the institutions where the political life of the country is developed. We insist that all who call themselves members of Atina Chile take active responsibility for Chile's political institutions and participate in them with the same take-charge style with which we participate in the rest of the life of the Nation. Political differences are welcomed in Atina Chile. We only insist upon mutual respect and democracy. We only leave out those who believe that other Chileans should be left out. We practice not only acceptance and full respect of those with different ideas, we always make an effort to understand their points of view and leave as large a space as possible in our own positions for the concerns of others. 5) It means to cultivate a commitment to solidarity with "we who are Chile" Our country is a collective opportunity and problem for each and every Chilean. Because of this, we cannot hope that the state in its many manifestations, the marketplace, neither certain institutions, are the only ones who will watch over the future of Chile. Moreover, we are aware that many of us Chileans live "every man for himself" or, to put it another way, "I dedicate myself to fixing my own problems and everyone else is on their own." That is not the country that we need, neither that which we wish to create or live in. And much less that which we wish to bequeath to our children. Our movement and every one of its members awaken a sense of caring for the community. To make oneself a part of what is going on, of the suffering, the injustice, the social problems, this too is to take part in the solutions. We save ourselves together or we sink separately. 6) It means opening space to emerging poetic voices and cultivating appreciation for older voices that created the roots of that which we value in ourselves. To be a part of Atina Chile means to know that the cultural entity that we are, and our unique lasting competitive advantage, is our "cultural style." Either we are a gift and a supply of this style for the world, or we definitively are not. We amass our poetic legacy. We want to change it into a source of inspiration in all that we do, in all the domains of life, especially in business and economics, and we articulate ourselves better bearing in mind our identity as Chileans in the world. We want to project our legacy by opening challenging spaces for new voices that are still emerging. We commit to this especially. 7) It means taking responsible for every individual and for society. To be a part of Atina Chile is not to pass one's life looking for the guilty or clinging to good explanations for why things do not happen as they should. Rather, it is to make oneself responsible for improving society with leadership and entrepreneurial ability. Taking responsibility. Neither is our style aggrieved or resentful. Complaining loudly, without the spirit of creation and producing action, is useless. We are worried at how disengagement has taken hold in our culture. To "Atinate" is to educate the country (and educate ourselves) in how to cultivate action and entrepreneurialism, at the same time not assigning guilt to anyone or anything; generating innovation and creativity when resignation and discouragement spread. Either you take charge or you do not. 8 ) It means cultivating entrepreneurialism in its many manifestations. The word entrepreneur has been used and catalogued in the sense of business and is linked to personal success. Nevertheless, in our movement we interpret the word entrepreneurialism as something that transcends this. The cultivation of entrepreneurialism is how worlds are created, to produce and bring life to realities that did not exist. Likewise, these realities are not only businesses but also institutions, projects, laws, and communities, among others. The entrepreneur is someone who attentively observes social and personal dissatisfaction. And instead of accepting them or complaining, develops an enterprise that permits her to take charge of these dissatisfactions. This could be due to a defect of work, religion, politics, or because communities live in situations of exclusion. A society that cultivates entrepreneurship is a creative society with an "explosion of talent." Above all, entrepreneurialism is a way of life that is cultivated in a community, not in isolation. Atina Chile is committed to making Chile a community that generates in its members this way of life. 9) It means creating an identity that we are proud of, generating projects and visions that unite us. Chile and Chileans are not isolated from the senselessness that characterizes our era. Our society is sleeping and is spiritually shut-off. Our movement seeks to create projects and visions of a country that offers something to youth and to society, to an era of being Chilean. To understand society as an atomized set of parts and an organizing state only feeds into disenchantment, dejection, senselessness. As members of Atina Chile we should be capable of creatively awakening both small and countrywide initiatives that unite us, that differentiate us, which make us feel authentic pride for having been born and lived in this Nation. Membership in Atina Chile challenges all citizens to join their hearts and interests together so that these projects form a reality that we all have worked for together.
